STUDENT LEADER PORTFOLIOS

JULIANNA L.
FOUNDER
American politics today lacks empathy. With the increasing polarization of politics, words are thrown around and misused constantly by the parties. So, I founded ARTivism to invoke empathy back into politics by using  art as a means of activism. Art is a universal language and transcends geo-political borders. ARTivism curates a platform for students to use their musical, poetic, or artistic talents to relate to a relevant political or social theme the open mic night is focused on. In this way, we are able to take a break from the constant bickering that is modern day American politics. We are able to discuss the issue at hand by using art to make us feel empathetic again about the issues that matter.

CARTER C.

Throughout my life, my resiliency and goal-setting practices have shaped me into the problem-solving, ambitiously curious student that I am today. Considering the plethora of injustices plaguing our society today, I hope to utilize my creative aptitude to provide a platform for those that fail to be heard in order to ensure that their stories are told.

EMCEE
There’s a beauty to expressing something without using words, and I find that in art. As emcee, I love interacting with both the performers and audience, and each time I strive to create a comfortable and interactive safe space where everyone can share their thoughts, their opinions, their dreams.

BIJAYA M.
EVENT COORDINATOR
I’m a social media lead.
I joined Artivism because I wanted to help create an open environment for youth to express their thoughts in creative ways without judgement. It is hard to find outlets for creativity within our education system, so artivism provides that outlet for youth with dreams.
